First off, long time no see Shocked . I am planning a display for next year celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original IBM PC. I was just wanting input on what would be good to display. I have a full system I plan on putting up on display, along with a 64k motherboard and 8088 processor. I also have 2 original manuals along with a few magazines from around that time. ANY suggestions are welcome and WANTED!!!

  • DOS 1.0 or DOS 1.1 if you can find it. (Or some early version!)
  • Visicalc
  • IBM 5152 dot matrix printer
  • IBM 5151 monochrome monitor (ideal for business use)
  • Old style diskette holding box, Maxell diskettes Smile
  • Byte magazine
  • Hayes 300 or 1200 BPS modem

That's a good start ...

I have a dos 2.1 book that came with a pc jr. I also have more 360k disks than I would ever need (some maxell, but most Kodak color disks). I have an ibm 1200bps modem here that I could toss into the display (could provide a graph of download times at 1200bps and at 10mbps). May be time to scour the thrift stores and ebay for a few items Rolling Eyes

Luckily I have almost a full year to plan, so I have time Wink .

I know it's a little late, but maybe somebidy could do a 30th anniversary display of the XT next year:

IBM 83 key KB
DOS 2.1
all the original documentation including DOS/BASIC manuals
5154 EGA monitor
5151(they can coexist)
5161 with 2 ST-412s
2 IBM FH 360k FDs in system unit
MS mouse 1.0 (green buttons/metal wheel)
Windows 1.00 Premier Edition (really just cool)
5152
8088/87
256k ram

so far dos 1.0 has escaped me dos 1.1 doesn't do much
but dod 2.1, since it supports a hard drive is usable
I dipute that 2.1 will only SEE 16 megs, I think it can support 21m.

I would ' cheat and not use the xebec controller.
the 2.3 length wd1002 wx1. BUT with a newer superformatter bios is much better. it will fit the socket
( they THOUGHT) I was working when I was copying HD controller bios;
Green monochrome would be authentic.
some kind of FH drive like a seagate st219 ( 15 megs)
remeber the serial card goes in the slot next to the PS
