Single core, 'cause I'm sure the switch only has one CPU core.

I got home from a trip a few days ago, and found I couldn't connect to my NAS. I looked at the switch it was connected to, and it was dark. Thinking a power surge killed the switch, I swapped it out. That one, unplugged for months was dark as well. Kinda unusual for electronics to just die when unpowered, so I replaced the only thing left: the power cord.

The old switch lit up and has been working ever since. The cord looked fine, so I've no idea why it failed. For safety, I cut the ends off and will dispose of it.

I haven't seen a cable fail in use like that before.

Was it a heavy duty 3 prong (grounded) cable or a 2 pin thin one?

Never had a heavy duty cable fail, but the 2 prong cords can break if stressed and heated/cooled.

Heavy duty 3 prong cord. Standard PC power cord.
