upgrading to 2000 is possible and i have used it on other systems with good results.

90% of the time, my wife is scanning.
her scanning is directly related to whatever else she does.
she is talking about a second system with a scanner but the only other one is a umax and the scanning sw is totally differnt. I don't know if she will even use it.

all our systems are now 500mhz and have usb 2.0.
some don't have adequate ram for serious work.

my original plan in 1999 was a second system.adually, a fic va 503+ isa ir atx mb.
AND LATER A AMD 450.
THE BOARD HAS A super reputation but was a total disaster. whetever error could happen DID HAPPEN. hard to believe but windows me worked longer then anything else.
fonts became bar codes, long hangs and delays.
name it, it happened. the 2nd system project got stalled.

now i have other systems and parts.
and bought 2 p 400 cpu for $3.00 each.
one is in a asus p2b mb and should be enough.

I was given a p3-500 system. I used it as a "barebones" and put all my wife's stuff in it.

you may know what I went thru.

as people upgrade and most, if all the pc becaomes available, i cam make adequate systems
that will do what we need.

eventually, i would like to win the lottery and get a p4 with an promise ata 133 controller on it.
