The XT review should be updated. There should be some information posted about performing upgrades such as 736k memory mod and the V20 CPU. Maybe also some things dealing with SCSI cards. I have gone through some interesting experiences trying to get a CD-ROM drive going in an XT. We should also make a catelog of 8-bit ISA cards. Each page should feature some nice colour images, complete with jumper settings and user experiences with the card. Maybe we can have some sort of ratings system. Perhaps we can also expand the XT Club. It would be nice to read more about what is going on with other people's machines.

FYI:

Apparently Tom Carlson is on the verge of selling the OCHL. While that site is somewhat different from ours, we should make users welcome here. It would help to make more info available here.

Oh really? That's too bad. I think it was one of the better sites on the internet. Is he the one that I heard about on Slashdot? I think that the vintage computer community has just about fallen to pieces these days. Machines are falling into the hands of people who appreciate them only as an investment rather than something that really interests them. I don't have many machines in my collection, but the ones I do have are very well taken care of. If it ever comes to having to get rid of them I would sooner give them away to somebody who loves them as much as I do than sell them.

The TH99 is a great source for jumper settings. I used to have a mirror of it but my server's 160gb raid01 array crashed. Now it's running again, but only with a 20gb hdd. But I might put the TH99 back up on that hdd.

I'm also selling most of my computer stuff. I used to have an IBM PC hdd, 5.25", from 1982, made in the UK and I just sold it for 40 bucks. I don't see the vintage computers as an investment, but I have to get on with my life, like paying for college etc. and selling my vintage computer stuff will help with that.

As you mentioned the XT Club, does anyone else apart from me have the password for it / occasionally check it for new entries?

Sadly no. I'v also drifted away from this place for a while. Guess it's time to stop slacking off.

BTW

if we need storage (not sure how much uclc has, I can provide it as I have 3gb storage and 50gb transfers a month(and only use about 1gb a month).

Off to get out an xt Very Happy (hope it works after sitting for 2 years!)

I've checked the XT club a time or two... I don't remember what the password is, but I know where to find it.

We do need to get work on UCL a bit more. I was planning on doing more during the summer, but just didn't have time. As always, contributions are welcome. Pimped_Portable, I'll get your contribution up sometime soon. I just haven't had time/opportunity/thought colliding at the same time.

Yeah, I keep meaning to do more, and I really should have done over summer (plenty of free time). But I seem to have been busy recently.
I seem to have drifted away to, and haven't really been here much at all since this forum was reset (so quite some time :/). iirc, the whole site was restored from a backup at that time? I forget exactly what happened though.

Same with me. I keep checking/deleting "spam" posts/posters, but I've got a lot of stuff I'd like to get uploaded. Never can seem to find the time (or the backups they're burned to). Having dial-up at home doesn't help. Even though I've got T3 here at work, even that'll soon be nearly off-limits since I'll be going to my job on a day-shift position (more people to nose into what you're doing...)

"Unattended" is a good thing Smile

Batch files are good things too... I wonder if you can run Windows FTP from a batch file...
