one thing i do is move files with a scsi card and controller. a hp pavillion system with a phoenix sios
reports that it cannot load the bios"
usually the pnp installs the card in all other systems but they have award bios'
what do i try?

Wouldn't it be easier (albeit slower) with something like a parallel-port HDD. You might not even need to load drivers. Just take a bootable floppy with you that loads the drivers and then to a command prompt. If it's a 32-bit version of Windows, then have a disk for "32-bit" and if it's DOS/Win3x have a "16-bit version" of the bootdisk. You could even call up a mouse driver and something like DOS Shell so you wouldn't have to completely do command line. Then move/copy the files to there and bring it back to the "burning/copying" machine to copy/burn/save. All could easily be done on a 1.44MB Floppy (even a 1.2MB for 5.25" drives). I know that doesn't solve the SCSI Card driver, but I never open a machine I don't absolutely have to...

the adaptec card works in all the pc's with an award bios, but not in the system like the HP with a phoenix bios
I have the scsi parts and it works pretty well, since the card is pci pnp it should be detected and work properly.
getting a parallel port or usb system involves $$$ which I don't have.
the card should be recognized. I will "poke around" in the bios setup"
and see if there is another setting I can change,
I cannot believe that the scsi card is incompatible with the hp system.

You could use an used IDE drive (who doesn't have some of those lying around), and every machine I ever worked on had a LPT port...

reading on the www, apparently it requires a driver to work
the uk and usa adaptec sites were partly down this morning but i got a driver just now

I started out thinking it would be a simple answer "why does the scsi card cause a conflicy duting the boot up "
it is a conflict and the bios is not loade-it says
I am trying to set this up for my wife who used a scsi scanner and needs some kind of scsi card
I bought a usb scanner but she will not use it as she doent find the software practical to use.
I went thru the hoops with ho email support and got a bunch of
"dumb blonde" answers they sent me toJenaflexhonme support ( $45.00??)
NO.

the only recourse it to see if adaptec will snwer me.
hp is a lost cause.
funny thing, the promise ata 133 card works fine
buat won't run my wife'ws scanner.
