A fellow I know had a good idea: If you need a SD card, buy a MicroSD card and adapter instead. The device will still work properly, but if you want to transfer pictures to another device that only has MicroSD, you can.
I've taken it one step further: I bought a MicroSD card and a card reader to use in place of a USB memory stick. Using a MicroSD card, SD card adapter, and card reader, you get a device that fits 3 form factors. There's one more side benefit if power consumption is important: The card readers I've tested have both required about 100 mA of current, rather than the USB memory sticks where half of them require 200-300 mA.
Many USB "on-the-go" devices seem to have limited the available power to around 100 mA, so they'll refuse to work with devices that draw more power. (Aside: If battery life is so important, why do they draw current when OFF?) The card reader trick seems to be best for dealing with this situation. |
