Greetings,
I have an IBM AT 5170 that I purchased new in 1987. I used it until
1999, with the addition of a new 486 motherboard (since failed) and
larger hard drive, and it has been in storage ever since. I just
reinstalled the original motherboard and booted the thing up, and it
works--it boots up off the hard drive and the floppy. There are three
caveats: the battery backup for the BIOS is missing, the current power
supply is an AT-form factor power supply but does not accomodate the
larger, original, motherboard, and there is some cosmetic damage to
the bottom front of the plastic bezel. Other than that, the case is
in good condition, and I have the keys, quick-reference guides,
plastic cover for rear of unit, manuals for all hardware, driver
disks, etc. I also have the original boxes. This was my first
computer. I paid a ridiculously large amount of cash for a genuine
IBM (in retrospect probably not a sensible plan in 1987) and am a
little bit sentimentally attached to it. I hate to just throw it out.
I can send pictures of stuff if you want. If you want it, or know
someone who wants it, you can have it for the cost of shipping it from
here to there.
