a year ago I made a floppy from w 98 dos to usb. ( slow ibm laptop)
recently I wanted to access my 12g usb external drive with a 98 dos floppy.
the second try worked
another one ( cypris driver) wo0uld not see the usb kb on my newer desktop.
the disk I have works with the ext usb drive., but since I do not have or own a usb cd, that part returns an error.,
I have that one floppy. but attemts to make a dos 6.22 floppy have failed. Must be somthing missing with the earlier dos.
One site offers a ubb driver "collection" link but it is linked to bootdisk.com who now wants money. the files are basically free bootdisk.com is charging for his efforts in creating bootdisks.
Does anyone have a dos or dos 98 bootdislk that can access usb devices.
the one I do have works and does see the usb keyboard
and the 12g external drive.
I use dxp to make self-extracting floppy

Walter, are you saying Bootdisk.com wants money? I downloaded all their bootdisks just now and wasn't prompted for any transaction. Granted, not all the mirrors were available, but I got all they had. |

from one of the text files I followed this link
to an enquirer article
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1046069/yes-usb-drivers-dos
config.sys
DOS=HIGH,UMB
lastdrive=Z
device=HIMEM.SYS
rem The following line loads Panasonic's universal USB- controller driver
devicehigh=USBASPI.SYS /v /w /e
rem the following is an aspi mass storage driver
rem for usb- connected HDs and compactflash memory cards
devicehigh=DI1000DD.SYS
rem The following one loads CD-ROM driver
devicehigh=USBCD.SYS /d:USBCD001
autoexec.bat
@echo off
REM the following line adds a drive letter to the usb cd(rom/r/rw) mounted
LH MSCDEX /d:USBCD001
the DOS was win 98
this will see my sd card on a reader
and an external 12g laptop drive on a usb box
the cd - I have usb no cd -returns an error
I took everu SYS I had recently found
Volume in drive A is PLAIN-DISK
Volume Serial Number is 2A1B-1603
Directory of A:\
COMMAND.COM
HIMEM.SYS
MSCDEX.EXE
EMM386.EXE
AUTOEXEC.BAT
di1000dd.sys
config.sys
UMBPCI.SYS
USBASPI.SYS
USBASPI0.SYS
USBASPI1.SYS
USBASPI2.SYS
USBASPI3.SYS
USBCD.SYS
usb_cd.sys
You nwill NOTE that all these sys files are not called. this disk will be used to test other config.sys files.
Onre that locks things up is from cypress semiconductor. |
