In New Haven, IN (a hop away from Ft. Wayne.) the steam locomotive will be under steam. If you're around the area, it's worth having a look. They're open until 4:00.

Honestly doesn't it seem like a coal powered steam engine would be cheaper to run than a diesel? Given the fact coal is cheaper this year than 5yrs ago? (and many times cheaper than oil) |

The coal's still not free... and neither is labor. Steam locomotives need a lot of maintenance, unfortunately, so we're only likely to see diesel-electrics pulling most regular trains. |

Thanks for the links! I really liked the pictures on the second one. There's several items in there that would be fairly easy to model, if I wanted to. |
