I would like an internet ready OS that can be booted off a cd on an older HDless & caddyless compaq armada 1750 for a friend.
Has anyone managed to make windows 98 boot off a couple of floppies yet? Or made a micro 98 installation with a web browser?
Thanx

That wouldn't seem likely considering how many resources it would take. My suggestion would be an older version of Knoppix (unless the machine has 128MB of RAM or more, then I'd suggest the current 5.0 version) |

You could try Damn Small Linux.

It's a full Linux distro in just 50 megs. Contains lots of goodies even though it's so small |

Actually I have micro 98 that fits on 4.6mb of space, add a 1.2mb web browser like Offbyone and a dialer and voila. Main problem i've had is added a dialer into the micro 98. Which begs the question, does anyone here ahve the software or ability to make a micro 98 installation? I'm tempted to dump windows 3.11 and the smaller netscrape distro, plus a bunch of office software onto a cd and use it in conjuction with a ramdrive to boot it off without read write errors. |
