Please be patient. In order to facilite any new users from the Obsolete Computer Helpline, UCL has removed most the restrictions on usernames and banned IPs. We have not yet implemented any spam reduction mods, unfortunately they take time I do not currently have. |

Yes, we've dropped (almost) all restrictions. We'd like to let everyone in as easily as possible, which means we have to let a certain number of bots through as well. I get around to cleaning things out a few times a day, so the number of members will likely fluctuate from time to time until we have things in place. Simple rules of engagement now apply:
1. Don't click on anyone's e-mail address if you're not sure who it is you're replying to or willing to accept tons of spam...
2. Don't click on anyone's web link if you're not sure where it is you're going or willing to accept virii/spyware/adware...
3. Be wary of "new postings" from "new posters", especially if you're easily embarrassed, as a few postings that recently got through would make most of us blush...
4. If you're a new "legitimate" member (especially from OCHL), then welcome. We hope your input and expertise will benefit all who visit and post. Please post something relevant to the forums when you arrive in order to ensure you're not mistaken for a spammer/bot. If you have a homepage for other's to visit, please add that as well; but recognize that all web-links are verified on a machine that I can afford to lose/reformat (except those that are blatantly obvious as spam-links--which are instantly blown away)...
5. Please be patient with us. We knew this would be an issue (at least temporarily) when the decision was made. We'd like to keep this forum as a "resort" for old-machine users and fanciers, but even resorts have mosquitoes... |
