I live in Alabama, we were hoping it was not going to pull a Hurricane Opel and come our way. Kind of irritating, I've had to move my relocation to this wednesday.

I used to live in alabama this past school year and I still talm to the people over there ( my former classmates ). theyre out of school today because of Katrina. But that's Northern Alabama and I don't think it'll be too bad there.

As of last Friday we were in the direct path of it, then it fooled everybody and headed west. I don't think after last year I could survive another Frances/Ivan combo (30+ inches of rain between the two storms, 8 days apart). Storms like that aren't supposed to hit the mountains that hard. Even so, Katrina is over 350 miles away (Nashville, TN---and now just a depression) and we've gotten 3" of rain and 60mph gusts from her. Enough to knock out power temporarily this AM.

I can only hope and pray for people in the Gulf Coast area...

I can't really get ahold of anybody in the northern alabama area. Do you know how things around huntsville, AL are? Is the storm through already or is it still there?

My supervisor's-wife's parents live there. I talked with him this AM and he said they stated things were pretty rough there last night. He didn't really give any specifics. I'll see him this afternoon and find out more. The center of the storm is north of there (Nashville, TN) as of 10AM today.

Here's a link to probably the best current info on the storm:

Unfortunatly this type of weather increases with the global increase in temprature and
high water tempratures, we nead to decrease the outporing of carbonmonoxide.

Even though I don't want to make this a political board (and the fact that I tend to lean right on just about everything political), I have to agree. Problem is now that it's just not likely to happen now that other countries (i.e. China) are likely to be as large a contributor to the problem as other more-industrialized nations. With over 6.4 billion people (http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/popclockworld.html) on earth now, it's not a problem with a quick solution..

I just hope that every country which have the means should work hard on reducing the carbon monoxide. Smaller cars alternative energy sources etc.

Yep, and today gas went up about 40 cents/gallon (now about $2.95/gal) and will likely break $4.00/gal by the end of the month. I think I'll wash & wax the Saturn this weekend (42+mpg) Very Happy

I want a more fuel efficient car, but those stupid manufacturers refuse to make one and I don't have enough money to get them to!

I'd think 100+ mpg would be possible given my driving style. (The car sits in the sun all day--let the sun charge batteries!)
